How to practice gratitude

Is practicing gratitude easy? Is there an art to it?

Well, I discovered the practice of gratitude during my breast cancer treatment.

When my husband first suggested it, it sounded all hokey pokey.

But then I began to notice that other people were also recommending the daily practice of gratitude in their blogs and online.

I thought to myself, “Maybe there is something to this gratitude thing”.

When you’re facing a life challenging situation you’ll do almost anything to get your way through it.

I reflected and rationed that the act of gratitude was a simple nightly habit. What’s the worst outcome it could give me?

So I gave it a try – and to be honest it works.

This is no weird humbo jumbo thing.

It took some practice and sometimes a little while to think about what I had to be grateful for.

But over time you begin to notice and be grateful for all the good things around you no mater how big or small.

  • The smell of rain on freshly cut lawn
  • The sun shining on my face
  • The fact I am alive!
  • My friends
  • My family
  • The walk to work that morning
  • My crazy cat chasing her tail

So how do you practice the daily art of gratitude thing?

Very simple.

Every night just before you close your eyes, you write down 3 things that you are grateful for that happened or you noticed during the day.

It matters not how small or large.

Just jot down three things. Don’t spend anymore than a few minutes on this.

Keep it simple.

That’s it.

Why not give this daily practice of gratitude a try.

Do this every night for a month and then at the end of the month reflect on how you are feeling. Have you noticed any changes?

I hope so.

I know I did.

Let me know how you go. I’d love to hear how this daily practice works for you.

Big Love
